Join us in WILDE this Autumn for an extraordinary evening of exceptional Anselmo Mendes wines paired with a specially created five-course menu, hosted by winemaker and owner Anselmo Mendes and his son Tiago Mendes.
This exclusive evening will include commentary on each course alongside wine pairings curated by Anselmo Mendes and Phillip Dunne, Group Sommelier for The Doyle Collection. Dinner will be served on WILDE’s iconic terrace, with its unparalleled views of Grafton Street and 1930s-style décor, bathed in atmospheric candlelight for the occasion.
Anselmo Mendes hails from an agricultural family from Monção, that, like most in the area, dabbled in wine for household production. After studying in both Portugal and France, during the 80s, he soon was one of the most sought-after consulting wine makers in Portugal. In 1998, he finally struck out on his own, producing his first own label with Alvarinho grapes, the instantly iconic Muros de Melgaço, using his house as winery. From the beginning Anselmo focused on innovation and finesse in making. Vinho Verde. The, at the time highly unusual, fermentation of Alvarinho grapes in wooden casks or the use of traditional vinification techniques, such as fermentation on skins, and Anselmo’s uncompromising penchant for bone-dry, mineral, no-fizz style of Vinho Verde are just some of the characteristics that set his wines apart. Due to his efforts and passion, he also garnered the charming nickname with which he is still associated today — Mr. Alvarinho.
This wine dinner is an opportunity to experience five of Anselmo Mendes' exceptional wine selections alongside a mouth-watering five-course tasting menu created by WILDE Executive Chef Sandeep Singh.
The event will begin at 7.15pm on Wednesday, 30th October.
